Our Sedation Clinic

Quay Dental is the first dedicated sedation clinic in the West of Ireland for nervous or anxious patients. A fear of dentistry is a very common problem and you are not alone if you have a fear of the dentist. We are very happy to see nervous patients and we have yet to meet someone we couldn’t help.

Lisa Creaven is a Dental Phobia Certified dentist.

We understand the difficulty nervous patients have even phoning the practice. Please let us know if you are feeling anxious or worried. We assure you that every patient is treated with respect, care and compassion.

If you, or someone you know is very nervous about undergoing dental treatment then you could benefit greatly from having treatment carried out under intravenous sedation.

I.V. Sedation is a procedure whereby a sedative drug is administered intravenously prior to having dental treatment. The sedative effects of the drug last for approximately 2 hours allowing Dr. Creaven to complete any treatment needed without any fear or apprehension.

I.V. Sedation is an effective, safe and less costly alternative to general anaesthesia and is available at Quay Dental in the heart of Galway City.
This type of sedation provides a profound reduction in anxiety. It also eliminates most if not all memory of the procedure. This is a very effective method of sedation for anxious patients and we are happy to be able to offer this procedure.

I.V. Sedation is very safe. However, you will require an escort to accompany you for several hours after your treatment. Anyone in good health is a suitable candidate for IV sedation.

I.V. Sedation will allow even the most nervous patients to accomplish full dental health in as little as one appointment.

Adults who have…

  • a fear of visiting the dentist
  • had traumatic dental experiences
  • difficulty getting numb
  • a bad gag reflex
  • very sensitive teeth
  • limited time to complete their dental care
  • complex dental problems

Adults who…

  • hate needles and shots
  • hate noises, smells and tastes associated with dental care
  • are afraid and embarrassed about their teeth

Years of neglect can be reversed in a few hours.

With SEDATION DENTISTRY, we can complete most of your dental care at one time. We can often do extended treatments in a couple of appointments, including:

  • whitening yellow or stained teeth
  • replacing crowns or dentures
  • fixing chipped or damaged teeth
  • restoring sore gums to good health

Will I feel any pain?

sedation_image2Most patients feel no discomfort whatsoever during their treatment and feel surprisingly good afterwards.

Will I be totally relaxed?

You’ll receive just enough sedation so that you’ll be completely unaware of the treatment, as you would if you were asleep.

Will I remember anything?

At the end of the treatment, you’ll have little or no memory of your dental visit.

Will I be groggy after my treatment is over?

You will feel just fine. For your safety, we do require that you have a family member or friend drive you home.
